We just completed this Passive Commercial mixed development in Foxrock in Dublin in Dec 2009 which comprises of a Veterinary Clinic, Doctors Surgery and 2 apartments. We are in the process of certifying them at the moment so it could still take a few months. All buildings seem to be performing to the Passive House standard particularly the Veterinary Clinic which has been occupied since September 09 but the heating has never been turned on because it hasn’t been required. I asked the client if he was using much gas and I had to show him where the gas boiler was. We probably didn’t calculate enough heat gain from the animals who stay there when we did the PHPP calculations.
We invented our G element Passive House certified foundation system and our Passive roof light while building this development and learned a lot along the way. When you look at the awkward shape of both buildings you can imagine the task we set ourselves when we decided to attempt to build this development to the Passive standard. We could have built this development to the 2005 building regs but we reduced the energy consumption by 90% by building to the PassivHaus standard.
