Kilcloon Passive House

We built this Solar Heated Passive House in 2011 using our Warm Stud Timber Frame method, the wall, roof and slab U-values are 0.10W/m.K or better and the airtightness level is 0.42ac@50kPa. We’re using a 50m3 Solar Slab that will be heated in the summer to heat the house in winter, it’s capable of storing 750kWh when heated to 40 degrees which is enough to heat the house in January and Febuary. 16m2 of Thermomax tubes will be used for hot water and to heat the Solar Slab.

The house is ventilated with 2 highly efficient FiWi HRV units without ducts of filters, one in the living area downstairs and one upstairs. Munster Joinery triple glazed 0.8W/m.K PVC windows were used for the project.

No tapes or membranes were used for this project, the high air tightness level is achieved using a silicone gasket layer between the OSB and the studwork.
